2022 Welcome Back

Greetings Frisbie Parents and Guardians,

We are anxiously awaiting the first day of school.  On behalf of the Frisbie faculty and staff, I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer filled with adventures and good health. We are so excited to have the students back in our classrooms filling them with energy and their enthusiasm for learning.

Our dedicated staff members are preparing the classrooms to be inviting environments for your child. The office staff has been busy registering new families, updating student files, and composing documents to provide you with all the information you need to begin the school year.  Our hard working custodians have spent the summer cleaning the facility.  And, our much appreciated PTO members are gearing up to welcome new families and offer exciting programs to our students.  Mark your calendars!  Curriculum Night will be held on September 14th.  More information will be provided as the date approaches.

Since school was dismissed in June, Frisbie School has had several facility updates.  New rugs have been installed throughout areas of the school, while the cafeteria has been painted to brighten up the space.  Some student bathrooms have been given a modern makeover that will be welcomed by our students.

Each year brings change.  This includes additions to our staff.   We are excited to welcome Brittany Leonard and Stephanie Bedell to our kindergarten team at Frisbie.  Brittany joins us from Alcott where she was a Pre-K teacher, while Stephanie comes to Frisbie with many years of experience teaching kindergarten at Sprague Elementary School in Waterbury.  Michelle Signor joins Lauren Allison as a member of the Special Education team at Frisbie along with Ashley Kochan.  Ashley Kochan comes to us from Seymour where she was a Special Education teacher, with over six years experience.  We are thrilled to expand our special education program to three full time teachers.  Paige Cipriano has united with June Fishbein to complete our first grade team.  Kelly Gilchrist transferred from Alcott to Frisbie as our new second grade teacher as she has over seventeen years experience in Wolcott.  Wojciech Giezek, who was our long-term physical education substitute, has now secured a permanent position on our Frisbie team.

As in the past, Frisbie is participating in the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge.  We have been recognized by the Governor’s office for many years.  We are hopeful that we will again be recognized as a top school with one hundred percent participation.  More information will follow but please keep track of the books your child has read this summer.

This year will be excellent as we provide academic experiences that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real world connections.  In Grades K ,1, and 2 teachers received professional development at the end of last year and will implement the program Fundations, which provides research-based materials and strategies essential to a comprehensive reading, spelling, and handwriting program.  An ongoing focus will be placed on social emotional learning as we implement a new program titled Character Strong.

There are a few general procedures and policies that I thought you should be made aware of/remind you of before we kick off the 2022/2023 academic year.  They are listed below:

  • Back-to-School Forms- Parent/Guardians will be required to provide an “e-signature” online on the InfoSnap forms provided by the district. As in the past years this is done digitally to streamline the process.  https://wolcott.powerschool.com/public/home.html
  • Student Morning Drop-Off - If dropping your child off, please use the gym side entrance while pulling up all the way to the stop sign. Parents may drop students off as early as 8:25 am.  Students are required to be in school by 8:55 am.
  • Student Afternoon Pick - Up - This procedure will be the same as last year. Please enter on Todd Road at the Town Garage entrance.  Proceed past the field, towards Frisbie School.  Please form a single car line along the school.  A teacher will be outside the pick up entrance to determine who is being picked up and then gather your child for dismissal.  Please DO NOT get out of your car, unless to help fasten your child into a carseat.
  • Student Absence - Please call the school if your child is going to be absent for the day so we can account for their whereabouts.

I am thrilled at the opportunity to get to know all of you this year and engage in the educational process together.  I look forward to working with you as a team to help your child meet their goals and have a successful school year.  Enjoy the remaining days of the summer.  We are looking forward to seeing your child on the first day, September 1st.

In partnership,

Kimberly Murtaugh
